Do We Have Time for a Movie Montage?

If my title sounds vaguely familiar to you it is from the movie The Sweetest Thing which is one of my favorite stupidly funny movies. The characters dress up and act out scenes from some of their favorite movies.

I'm a sucker for a montage of movie clips that are used to show a character reflecting on memories. I think we all experience it, and when it is displayed that way it gives me more credibility to how the character feels and more basis for their words. It's just something about how the mind works that I really like to see brought to life.

'Memba in Twilight when Bella slips into an unconscious state after Edward sucks the venom out and Catherine Hardwick did that fantastic montage of clips with Rob singing in the background, Bella's words getting her through the transition and the last scene of the snow falling while Edward was lying in the grass holding Bella. "Death is easy, denying my love for Rob is harder." *chills*

Wanna know the real genius of this transitional scene? Catherine Hardwick could have just pulled a

>>FADE TO BLACK <<

here, but she didn't and she's damn proud of it, had no problem patting herself on the back  saying so in the commentary. She went with something visually dynamic, melodically pleasing, heartmeltingly moving, and arousing because you know I love seeing Rob's arms and him wearing blue!

That ain't Fade To Black! Something to keep in mind there Mister Bill C!

Here's a little mix up of the montage if you need to revel in the happier times when Bella could hang out in the cold and snow with Edward and not need the dog around to keep her warm.

Awesomely made by RhiiLouise

So I wanted to share some  my favorite videos that use clip montages, and truth be told, I think the videos are better than the actual movie scenes. {gasp} Take a look! See what you like!

1. I think Bella could have had a few more memories of the meadow in New Moon once she got there and found it barron and desolate.

2. Yes the proposal scene in Eclipse is great except for the fact that there was way too much synthetic fabric going on (aka hair and plaid) but I swear because that is the scene that  I wanted to see most it just goes by TOO QUICKLY!!! I want to live in that moment just a little longer or for like an hour, but I feel like I hold my breath once Bella gets through that door and before I have any effects from loss of oxygen their engaged and hugging.

But take a look at this video! It is a wonderful version and expression of Edward's feelings here and Bella's reaction to the words he is speaking. And even if you love Sia's "My Love" there is something undeniably powerful about the music used and it genuinely feels like it s-l-o-w-s the process down a bit and let's you take a breath and really enjoy the moment!

3.  What about the end of Eclipse when Bella gives her speech about what she's gone through? This video chronicles what she's reflecting on during her little "I'm soon to be vampire, hear me Grrrrrr" speech! Check it out!

Very nicely done by DefiningBeautyNet

But this...THIS ONE...This one is my new favorite because this is one of my favorite scenes in New Moon--when Bella is risking foreign accents, uneven gravel, bad coordination, and a bad sense of direction to run to get to Edward in time. The biggest problem with the movie is that Chris Weitz left out Bella yelling out for Edward, so I'm really happy to hear it in this version. Plus more of her memories that you can see! Those memories fuel her drive to get to Edward in time to save him.

I LOVE THIS VIDEO!!
Gah! Props to verotruth for making this!

So is there a point here? Like a big pointy fang point? Yes, there is!!!

One of my BIGGEST HOPES for the very end of Breaking Dawn 2, i. e. {insert simultaneous gasp and cry here} the end of the series, is that when Bella let's down her shield to let Edward in they do a montage of clips from Twilight through to the end. I mean if Bill C. and Melissa R. were really smart they would pull from some EXTRA NEVER-BEFORE-SEEN FOOTAGE that has been lying around collecting dust and include a good deal of it as well as filming extra stuff specifically for the described montage! Now should you both fail to give me what I want, I'll look elsewhere...to someone who has real vision that can't be silenced simply by shutting down her youtube account, I'm talking about  Biel! Her new channels can be found here!

While we are on the topic of someone having vision....
We've all seen the New Moon trailer a thousand times, right?
Ummm...first off, don't try to downplay it here.
WE ALL WATCHED THE NEW MOON TRAILER A BAZILLON TIMES!!
Now that we are all being honest with ourselves, maybe you would be willing to admit that you noticed a few changes from the trailer to the movie, and if you are like me, they bugged the ever-unliving shit out of you.

These lines were already INGRAINED in my brain exactly with the anticipation of the emotion of the scenes so why oh why Scummit did you go and use a different cake....I mean TAKE...not to mention where the hell was the line about the cake!

Line 1: "Oww... papercut." -Bella, said with emotion

Line 2:  "What happened with Jasper was nothing." -Bella, said with emotion

Line 2:  "I can't help myself. You are soooooo mouthwatering." -Laurent, said dripping with emotion

Why did these lines come off so flat in the movie? I liked these lines as said in the trailer MUCH better!!!! In fact they were PERFECT but they ended up changed in the movie.

Chris Weitz, why mess with perfection? Why did you build me up buttercup just to let me down and mess me all up???

So what did you think...

Did you notice a difference in the ways the lines were said?

Do you like any of the above videos better than the original scenes?

Do you think Bella's shield lifting for Edward would best be served by a montage of clips?

I found the Laurant scene was so much better in the trailer.
The montages are awesome, and I do hope they come up with something amazing for when Edward reads Bella's mind for the first time...especially since we never really "hear" what Edward hears. I often wonder if Edward is just lying to Bella because there was really no way for Bella to test it all along...like the way some guys tell you they own the bar you're at or that they like Monopoly. Even when she does let him read her mind, he just says "oh bella". I would have had him tell me how many fingers I had up in my mind...or something.

I often ask ask myself...what would Tom do in this situation? But then I remember that Rob tells him all his hopes and dreams so there is really no reason for him to KNOW what Rob is thinking. Then I start drinking.

I love the montage's they are better than the movies. I def think they should do that for the shield lifting scene

Mrs. P, you are going to drive me to drink...more ;)

kiTT, I know I sound like a broken record, but this is another amazing post. Once again, you have opened my eyes to things I didn't see before.

I really hope Mister Bill C is listening to your pointy fang point. A montage of epic proportions for the end of BD *sobs* would be perfect. Catherine Hardwicke got a lot of things right in Twilight when it comes right down to it.

Love the Let Me Sign video. You know how I feel about Rob singing. The videographer did a great job setting of editing images/footage to go with the song.

You're right...again. A video montage in the meadow for New Moon would have worked so much better to convey the deep hurt Bella was feeling. The video took my breath away, especially the footage starting at the 1:10 mark, where Edward tentatively puts his hand on Bella's face. That should have been in the movie. (It wasn't, right? Please tell me I'm not that bad of a fan.)

You already know how I feel about the irishtwiheart proposal video. It's still just as achingly beautiful today as it was when I first ran across it. *BIG sigh*

Damn you're good. Using a montage at the end of Eclipse when Bella gave her speech would have had so much more impact. Of course, only as long as it still included how utterly beautiful Robward looked in that scene. Because despite what he thinks, it is all about him ;)

Another great find with the verotruth video. Loved.

The New Moon trailer vs. the finished movie. Another example of you noticing things I never would have.

"Why did you build me up buttercup..." LMAO!

I think the videos were better than the original scenes. We need to get Biel and Summit working TOGETHER, damn it!

So I say hell yeah to a video montage for when Bella lifts her shield for Edward!

That was fun! But you know what the best part of the entire post was for me?

This ---> "Death is easy, denying my love for Rob is harder." *chills*

oh kiTT, we need to get you a job on these films. A montage of ALL the scenes (incl. the damn original kiss from twilight)that we did not get to see would be friggin' awesome. ('xcuse the swearin'. In that mood today!) I am trying to have some faith in Mr. Condon. He says he's taking this seriously and understands what we want, but I don't know. I saw a tweet that they were dancing on set. I really hope this ain't gonna me no DreamGirls meets Vamp thing. But...I digress...

p.s yeah, I know. They were dancing in between takes...yada yada yada. LOL

@Mrs. P, You should always comment here after these deep Tom thoughts and you started drinking.
I agree the whole Laurent scene in the trailer was better.
Now please elaborate on the guy who told you he owned the bar. Was this at Jillian's? The Dublin Pub? Because this sounds like an interesting story.

@itsjustme, Montages we all love'em! Total 80s tv tactic but so what..it works!

@Lisa, you continue to be a fan of my ideas, I'm so glad! Thank you! You turned me on to the 'I Do' video, and I Do love it! ps--Interpret the 'Death is easy..." line as you need to, but I meant that as if I were talking, not Kristen.
How did you NOT notice the altered lines in New Moon? It felt disappointing when I watched.

@Rob, You never call baby when you say you will, but I love you still!

@hisbella, A Job on set? Yes, please!!!!! That's what I keep saying!! I would take such a job even more seriously than Bill, Melissa, and Stephenie put together! I'd reign in the plaid, abolish the bad wigs, amp up the Edward nakkidity!! Sounds like a whole other campaign I should have started! LOL! I do hope there is dancing at the reception! Esp, Jackson booty shakin' dancin'!

kiTT,
You are brillant! I can not pick one favorite video montage you used here, but if I was forced to, I'd pick NM meadow scene because well, I love NM Edward best... "I love this place is haunted without you..." What a perfectly perfect song, so pretty. That one is a keeper for me.
I think Bill will make us proud, I just know he will use something like your ideas here, he just has to...

@Fran, you're wrong about me, but I hope you are so right about Bill!

Your idea for the BD2 shield lifty thingy is golden. I really hope they do that. That is a super idea my friend. Now how to tell Bill C. But I think I heard either Rob or Peter, can't remember who, said that they already filmed the end to both movies already, so I hope it's not to late to make that executive decision.

There was definitely a lot left out of New Moon that should have been fixed/different.
Same with Twilight. Same with Eclipse. I don't know who is really the person behind such f*ckery... The execs? The director? SM herself? Who ever it is, needs to get their head on straight before BD is in the final stages of production.

As for what you have here, I LOVE the Bella montage where she is creaming Edward's name. It's as it should have always been. ANd of course, Biel rules in the world of RobVids.

TongueTwied said...

@LWE No one will have listened to me but maybe they will still do a good job.

@Fangirl, should I read that first sent of your last bit "creaming TO Edward's name" or creaming WHILE YELLING Edward's name" or was there some other word(s) you left out there?

hisbella said...

Edward nakkidity? Woman! You're Hired! Woohooo! Let's all campaign to get kiTT on the set!!! Better idea...kiTT works on ALL Rob Films. ALL. Yes. I bet you could make Bel Ami NC friggin' 17 just for us. Do you think they'd release two versions? One for the youngsters and one for us Mature women of discerning tastes. Maybe see if we can get them to throw in some Rathbone for us? Can you tell someone's rubbing off on me...{coughlisacough}
While I agree dancing is key to a successful wedding reception...I am anxious. We need to smuggle you on the set to set our (or just mine maybe)minds at peace. I keep wondering if Eddie Murphy is gonna show up or that lovely Amer. Idol castoff singing "You're Gonna Love Me." Roughed up, boot wearing J's to you! LOL! I had too!
